Eo... what? can't pronouce it... - Eoipso Basel

Dear friends,

In order to continue for a little my Basel tips, I want to talk to you today about the restaurant I went to last Saturday. You see, when I am in Basel during the art fair, I always end up in the same places. Don’t get me wrong, I like going to the Kunsthalle or to the Bodega (although we had quite a rough time at KH this year), but last time for once, we went somewhere else. I was with a really cool group of people working in art or hospitality and we decided, after a little apéro on the terrace of the “Drei Könige” Hotel (beautiful ! ) to go to a place called Eoipso (it’s been 5 days and I still can’t pronounce it right!)

It is located a little outside the center of Basel (though since the city is small, it is only a 7min taxi ride from Hotel D) in what was probably a factory or an electric something. The place is huge and we couldn’t stop thinking about how it would be to throw a party there.

The food was rather unconventional and we had the chance to try some really special combo. As a starter, many of us took a dish composed of raw asparagus, crispy salmon nuggets and cold potato salad (told you it was unconventional!). And as a main course I enjoyed a Veal filet with some “écrevisses” and some creamy sauce (oups ! lactose intolerant). My friend Carolyn took also something special as a starter involving artichokes, sour cream and risotto.

The little asparagus/orange minestrone

We choose some very nice white wine from the Friuli to accompany us along diner and it was just perfect (well, when we left, all the bottles were empty).

To be honest, the service was not amazing during first half of our meal. We arrived late and they were in the rush. But, try to find a decent service in Basel during the art fair. Everybody is in the rush and it is already a miracle when you receive your dish!

I will actually recommend you this place for a diner between friends in Basel although it was not perfect because overall we had a really great time and this is for sure a place I want to try again…but this time during the year.

As usual, we finished our night with numerous drinks in the Biergarten of the Kunsthalle with the whole Art Basel crowd.

From Zürich with love,

Mr. Nico
