The painter? no! The chef!

Dear friends,

So here is somehow a funny story. Last winter, in February, I went up to visit my friend Florian (not my boss Florian! please keep up guys, that’s the Florian from Milan and London) in Engadin for the weekend. I have to say that not going there in the winter from Milan would be nearly criminal: it is next door, the place is amazing, the ski fantastic, the crowd entertaining and Florian’s parents adorable. I hereby thank them again for their repeated hospitality! (btw: I’ll be probably back next winter if it's ok? )

So here I was, up in the mountains, going for some ski, some apéro and some nice lunch at Trutz when we got invited to a great dinner organized by Patrick Martin from Patoro Cigars at the Kuhstall (remember my post from January? It’s Freddy’s place in the mountain from Corvatsch). We had a great dinner there and met a lot of very cool and interesting people. Between two courses I ended up explaining to my neighbor at the table that I was moving to Zürich for work (can’t help it I love to talk…) and she explained to me that actually, her son had a great restaurant there! She told me the place was name after their family: Segantini. Segantini was a very famous painter who spent a lot of time in Malloya, in Engadin. There is actually right now a fantastic exhibition of numerous Segantini’s works at the Fondation Bayeler in Basel (more on that soon on Artyparade.com).

So, long story short, on my first week in Zürich I decided to go and try the place with my friends Aurélie, Stefano and Florian. The first thing we thought was that we would have to come back in the summer to sit on their backyard terrace that just looked so nice.

We started the diner with some nice soup and salad (honestly my soup was good but not amazing) and our first bottle of Italian wine. As main course, we actually had delicious dishes. I had a great Venison dish and Aurélie had an amazing lamb “Souris” with risotto. The desserts were as well quite stunning. The ice creams were nicely “paco-jetted” and the pie just crispy enough.

It is totally a place where I am planning to go back in Zürich. It is not really cheap (around 90chf.-/pers) but I start to think I will never find a cheap place in Zürich. Segantini is a great place for a date (table are well spaced), a business lunch or a dinner with friends.

From my train between Frankfurt and Zürich with love,

Mr. Nico.
