My new bistrot in Geneva

Dear friends,

today, I am here to talk to you about a new place I discovered in Geneva. You see, lately, many of my friends and followers in Geneva have been complaining to me that I was never posting about their (my?) city. The fact is that I don’t feel the urge to talk about Geneva as I feel to it to talk about other cities or places. Maybe it is because I grew up there? Or maybe, because I normally always go to the same places? I don’t know, but today I am starting a roll about Geneva that shall take me 3 or 4 posts!

And today, I am here to talk to you about the “Bistrot de Charlotte”. I discovered that place in the newspaper a few months ago. Finally, I had the opportunity to go there last month with my French friend Romain, who now lives in Geneva. Rom is as well an alumnus from Lausanne and loves to share a nice meal with a nice wine (and nice chartreuse off course!). So when we were looking for a place to eat, I told him about this article and we decided to go and try this new “bistrot”.

You know by now probably how much I enjoy classical French bistrot cuisine (with a little twist). Well, at the Bistrot the Charlotte, I felt like I was coming home. Since we had a little something to celebrate (Romain got engaged last summer!), we decided to enjoy ourselves with a complete menu.

The famous “Oeufs Mayo”, a French famous starter involving boiled eggs, mayonnaise and either salad or, like here, a kind of delicious coleslaw, where simply amazing. There were not as good as the one from le Voltaire in Paris, but still made it to my top 5.

I then enjoyed some Chicken Breast with yellow wine sauce. It is a very typical dish where the sauce is done with “yellow wine”, a special kind of wine produced near the village of Arbois, in the Jura Mountains. It was served with some purée and some vegetables that were as well nicely prepared.

As a dessert, I just couldn’t resist the chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream where Romain sacrificed himself and took the “Riz au lait”, with salted caramel sauce!!

The service was really nice and efficient, the wine list quite correct with some good quality/price ratio wines (which is very rare in Geneva!) and the atmosphere is the one of a typical French bistrot, where you can hear, comment and maybe get involve in everything the people at the table next to you are saying !

I can only recommend this place for a diner with some friends (maybe not too many but up to 4 it’s perfect), a quick lunch (as I did with my friend Seb the other day…their daily lunch menu is really nice as well!!), or an apero drink at the bar before going somewhere else. On top of the, if you enjoy old school very expensive and quite hotel bars, I can only recommend to you the Bar form the 4 seasons Hotel des Bergues, which is located right next to the restaurant.

From Milano with love,

Mr. Nico

Thanks for the article Nico, this place is indeed pretty nice. It is also definitely worth a visit for Sunday brunch; good quality food nicely presented at a very fair price.

All the best from Gent,

Frederick
