Dear friends,
On my first week in Milan, a year and a half ago, I went for diner in a great restaurant in the Navigli neighborhood: Al pont de Ferr. You see in Milan you can find great restaurants. Most of them however are serving classic Italian food. If you want to have something quite original, you actually have to go spend quite an amount of money in gastronomical places like Cracco, Trussardi or Tanno. The pont de ferr is therefore probably one of the only alternatives when you want to have the “Bistronomical” experience in Milan like you have it in Paris (Rino, Chateaubriand), without going to fusion or ethnical restaurants. With an attractive Menu and somehow reasonable price (about 50€/pax, 60-70 with a good wine), the Pont de Ferr is a great place to go with your friend if they like to eat.
Last time I was there (It is always full so I’ve only been there 3 times), I was meeting my friend Laetitia, who lives in the Navigli and loves to eat, as well as my friend Bertille and Georg. Actually we were all foreigners and all big amateurs of nice food. This restaurant was the perfect place for our little gathering.
The pastas
We first shared some amazing raviolis and tortellonis as a starter (we are still in Italy!) and then ordered one of my favorite dishes in Milan: The ribs of Bellotta Pigs in Barolo sauce! (Well I think it deserves extra exclamation points : !!!). Basically, what the owner explained to me the first time I went there is that everybody is all about the ham of Bellota pigs. But, as I was figured out after tasting this dish, that doesn’t mean that the rest of the meat is not as tasty and soft. It is a real experience and although I am not a huge fan of pork meat (cooked), it is a real delicacy (I hope my Rabbi is not reading this though!).
The rest of the meal was full of little (molecular like) dishes and the presentations of the plates and dishes are beautiful. We also enjoyed some great organic Italian wine recommended by the owner. She is a great lady who speaks I don’t know how many languages.
I can only recommend you this place for a casual gastro diner with some nice friends; although I wouldn’t go there for a date or a business diner, due to the originality of the cuisine.
From Geneva with Love,
Mr. Nico
