Dears friends,
I am now in paris for 2 months and as promised, up loading some post about this beautiful city.
A few days ago, after a great opening from Jack Pierson at Thaddeus Ropac's in the Marais, I went with my friend Mich for a drink on the rooftop of the Hotel Raphael. It is for me probably the most beautiful terrace of Paris. Depending where you seat, you will be able to enjoy either the view on the Eiffel tower or the Arc de Triomphe.
After a nice glass of rose there, we were craving for some nice food. We didn't really knew where to go and decided to grab a bite at Les Gourmets des Ternes.
Les Gourmets is the typical french bistrot as you would picture it, with drawings and picture of the boss on the wall and table dressed so close together that you can feel your neighbour breathing.
The boss is a nice guy, but his vibrant character doesn't make him look so.
We decided to share as a starter some beef salad and some egg mayonnaise that were so divine in their simplicity.
As a main course, the special piece of beef from the boss is a must (served with pepper sauce and 'os a moelle') but only the bravest are able to finish their plates.
Like it wasn't enough, we decided to share a 'creme de marron' as a dessert ! It is likely the heaviest thing I ever eaten (think concrete with sugar) but also one of the tastiest.
After that, our only option was to order some agged Calva liquor to digest a little. But it hardly did the trick...
If you are looking for some serious bistrot food in paris like the one your grand parents had on their honeymoon 50 years ago, Les Gourmets des Ternes is the place !
Soon I'll tell you about the salad bar I had to go to for the next two days in order to recover.
From paris with love,
N
