Italy's classical charm in Paris

A few nights ago, my friend Caro, (yes I've been eating a lot with Caro lately) who always has great addresses in Paris, took me for a diner at Gulio Rebellato.

The thing, now that I have been living in Milan for nearly a year, is that I am really complicated when it comes to italian food.

I have to say that the food at Rebellato was very good. I first had a tuna carpaccio that was thick enough to let me enjoy the taste of the fish properly (which is rare) and then, upon my request, very nice scallopine al Marsalla. The Marsalla sauce is a bit my barometer or my metric system to evaluate an Italian restaurant. It is rarely on the menu and therefore asses both the adaptability and the friendliness of the service AND. the quality of the kitchen as it is a real classic. I was then forced to try the tiramisu and I have to admit that it was better than many of the ones I had in Milan.

But I think that in the end, what I liked most about that place is that they were not trying to sell you anything else than what they are, which is a chic Italian restaurant in a chic part of Paris. The friendly distance and respect from the waiters was as great as the old fashioned interior design. I had a great time there and, I don't know why, thought that such a place could become an instant family classic if we were all living in Paris.

Rebellato is not cheap, but is worth what it is. We will only regret the minimalist expensive wine list, and the lack of a proper terrace.

I am off to Geneva for the weekend but will be back in Paris on sunday for some more eating !

PS: Coach Andrea at Get Fit Milano, if you read this, I promise you I am doing abs and push-ups nearly everyday...but we will probably have some fixture to do in September :-)
