The Osteria under the train station

A few weeks ago, when the weather in Milan was still kind of summerish, we decided with my friend Katrin to go out for diner with her friends from Germany and Austria. Since it was quite hot, I decided to book in a restaurant with a garden or terrace. Easier said than done since terraces were not officially open and most gardens already fully booked (we were a table of 6) for the night.
After an extensive number of phone calls and a research on the web that took me hours, i finally found the perfect place : L'Osteria del Binari.

Expectations and pressure were high since I didn't wanted Katrin's friends to be disappointed.
The Osteria is located under the train station of Porta Genova (!!!) and when I entered the little door on via Tortona, I knew I was at the right place : a vintage giant Berkel slicing machine from the 20's was facing me ! For the ones who don't know what a Berkel is, it is probably the best slicing machine ever built in the history of slicing. They are red, beautiful and really eficient. (but more on that soon).

The garden of the Osteria was beautiful and, for once, table were really well spaced. We were in a little corner and, with the plants and the walls, it was like we were in our own private garden (with our private waiters and cook...hum could get used to that! )

After a somehow classic but delicious antipasti made out of ham, cheese and terrines, we all received our main dishes. The majority of the table chose to eat either the beef filet or the grilled entrecôte. And it was clearly the good choice. Both meats were fantastic and tasteful. The filet was actually cooked in a crust of fillo paste for several hours which kept the meat juicy and tasty.

The potatoes served as a side dish were nicely grilled as well (see below the entrecôte). Dessert were as well very good but I have to specially mention here that the service was really efficient and warm. The staff of the Osteria is fantastic ! they also recommended us great wines. Actually, wines were so great, we needed several bottles of each :-)

I highly recommend you this restaurant if you want to share a nice moment with your friends in a garden in Milan. Prices were not cheap, but still reasonnable (approx: 70€/pax with 3 plates and the wines).
